Netgear Orbi – often referred to as Orbi consists of a router and 1(+) satellite. The router and satellites work together to create a single mesh network. The performance and working status of the network can be determined by the lights present on the router and satellites. Thus, it is important to understand what Orbi lights mean.

Lights on Orbi Router and Satellite

Two types of lights are present on an Orbi router as well as the satellite. First one if the Power light which is generally located at the back of the device. The second one is the Ring light which can be at the top or bottom of the router or satellite depending upon the Orbi model you have.

Since satellites get an internet connection from the router, let us first understand what do the lights on an Orbi router mean. The main purpose of learning the Orbi lights is to carry out the troubleshooting process effectively in case it is needed.

Orbi light colors – Router Power LED

Solid green or white	The router is powered up and is getting a stable power supply.
Solid amber	The router is restarting.
Pulsing amber	Your router’s firmware is being updated or it is resetting.
Pulsing red	Attention required as it means a major issue.
Off	The router is powered off.

Solid white	Orbi router is ready for setup.
Pulsing white	The router is starting or is trying to connect after you have pressed its WPS button.

Orbi Satellite Ring LED Color	Meaning
Pulsing white	The satellite is starting or it is establishing a connection with the Orbi router.
Solid magenta	There is no backhaul (wired or wireless) connection between your Orbi router and satellite or the satellite has no IP address
Solid blue (3 minutes)	The connection between router and Orbi satellite is good.
Solid amber	Your Orbi router and satellite are sharing a fair connection.
Off	The satellite and Orbi router are connected.

Orbi Outdoor Satellite Lights Meaning

An Orbi outdoor satellite can work with an Orbi router as well as a non-Orbi router. However, it runs in the Extender mode when connected to a non-Orbi router.
