Two types of lights are present on an Orbi router as well as the satellite. First one if the Power light which is generally located at the back of the device. The second one is the Ring light which can be at the top or bottom of the router or satellite depending upon the Orbi model you have.

An Orbi outdoor satellite can work with an Orbi router as well as a non-Orbi router. However, it runs in the Extender mode when connected to a non-Orbi router.
